Extension Leads
Most households, and indeed many businesses, will own at least one kind of extension lead. These cables are designed to extend the reach of an electrically powered device or to help provide power in areas where there is no close power point. Extension leads can be used in various ways, come in a variety of formats and can have either general or specific uses.

General extension leads, for example, may simply be used to extend the range of a power supply when there are no sockets close to hand. So, for example, if you want to mow your lawn and you don’t have an external power supply then you might simply run an extension lead from the house to the garden.
Extension leads may also generally be useful if you want to have something in a particular place but have no power point there. So, for example, if you want to stand a lamp behind your sofa you could run an extension lead from the nearest plug and plug the lamp into it if there is no suitable power point.
Some people also need to buy and use specialist extension leads. One of the most commonly used items here are phone extensions. These allow you to keep a phone on a base or in a position that isn’t close to the incoming phone point. Without an extension lead in this situation you would have to keep the phone close to the phone point for it to work.
Extension leads may all have a core purpose but they aren’t necessarily all the same. In some cases you may simply buy a lead that has one or two points for plugs or you may buy a strip extension lead that can take multiple plugs at the same time. This may be useful if you have a lot of things to plug into the electricity supply in your home or business but don’t have enough power points to handle them all.
Some extension leads also come with the ability to change the length of the lead itself. These are often circular devices with a little wind-up handle. You wind the handle to release the amount of lead that you need to use and then wind it up again when you are done. These leads can be particularly handy for outdoor work where you may need more length of lead to work with.
